Fitted vs. stretch table covers
A sewn polyester throw or a tensioned spandex cover — an honest side-by-side from the people who print both every day.
The short answer
Choose a fitted throw for exhibitions, conferences and roadshows: it is sewn to your table, holds its shape through a multi-day show and, in the three-sided cut, lets staff sit at the table and store boxes underneath. Choose a stretch cover for stages, demo tables and launches, where a drum-tight, crease-free surface matters because the table is on camera or on show from every angle. Both are cut to your measured table and printed with dye-sublimation, so the real question is how the table is used.
Side by side
| Fitted throw | Stretch cover | |
|---|---|---|
| Construction | Sewn wrinkle-resistant polyester, three-sided or four-sided cut | Four-way stretch spandex blend with weighted, locking foot pockets |
| Fit | Sewn to your measured table; keeps its shape through a multi-day show | Tensioned over the table; cut to your measured table, so one cover will not fit a different size |
| Surface | Smooth and tailored, with sewn corners | Drum-tight and crease-free; the tension pulls creases out within a minute of fitting |
| Dye-sublimated, full coverage, artwork continues round the corners | Dye-sublimated, with a taut surface that has no shadows in it | |
| Staff access | Three-sided cut leaves the back open to sit and store boxes underneath | Nothing draped, so nothing to catch a foot in |
| Care and packing | Machine washable, hang dry; folded and bagged per table | Machine washable, hang dry; table size marked on the bag |
| Best for | Exhibitions, conferences and roadshows | Stages, demo tables, launches and broadcast |
Where a fitted throw wins
A fitted throw is cut to a specific table rather than draped over whatever is there, which is why it does not slide sideways every time somebody leans on it. The three-sided cut leaves the back open so staff can sit and keep stock underneath, which is what most exhibitors actually want; the four-sided cut encloses the table completely and looks tidier on a plinth or an island stand. The print wraps the corners without a seam of white and does not crack where the cloth folds. See printed fitted table throws.
Where a stretch cover earns its place
A stretch cover locks under the feet and pulls the top and sides flat, so there is nothing to iron, nothing to straighten during the day and no draped fabric to catch. It is also the format that photographs best, because a taut surface has no shadows in it. The trade is that the fit is specific: a cover made for a six-foot trestle will not sit properly on a five-foot one, so we cut to your measured table and mark the size on the bag. See stretch spandex table covers.
The verdict
Pick a fitted throw for working exhibition stands, conference tables and roadshows where staff need access to the table.
Pick a stretch cover for stages, demo tables and launches where a perfectly smooth, photographed surface is the point.
